When a painter creates a painting they need to break down the image into the simplest shapes and values. Using painted, cut paper can do this. (Actually, that's how Alex Katz taught himself to paint) The student took pictures of their pets, did value drawings from them, painted paper and created collages. We also used the picture books of Eric Carle as inspiration.
